The Chronicle’s Administrative Leadership Institute

Higher education is going through a seismic change. Old ways are crumbling as the value proposition is increasingly questioned in public discourse, especially amid a climate of financial scarcity and political turbulence. Student needs are changing, and the ways that people work together are transforming. All higher-ed professionals are dealing with these uncertainties everyday—often without opportunities to prepare for the challenges and situations they’re bound to face.

The Chronicle and Teibel Education Consulting have developed a groundbreaking professional-development program that will empower leaders in both academic and administrative functions to work on how they show up in their role through collaborative workshops filled with practice opportunities, candid discussions, and guided exercises. Our program will help participants navigate turbulence by increasing their personal and interpersonal skills to create productive environments, provide stability in times of chaos, and bolster institutional success with effective collaboration and embodiment of shared governance.

Description

The Chronicle and Teibel Education Consulting have partnered for two years to support higher-ed leaders in navigating today’s challenging landscape and driving institutional progress amidst uncertainty. Since the inception of this partnership, the foundations of higher education continue to be tested, with new threats emerging each day—and no signs of slowing down. Our participants come from a variety of institutions and roles, yet they share one common need—a toolkit for navigating evolving issues nimbly, and a place to start putting those tools into practice.

Our reimagined Higher-Ed Leadership Institute has been designed to support leaders across both academic and administrative roles in embodying the skills needed to advance their personal, team, and institutional goals. Through our three workshop options, participants can focus on the challenges and goals most aligned with their professional experiences and institutional needs. 1. Showing Up – Leadership Competencies in Challenging Times
  2. Engaging Others - Building Trust and Resiliency Across Your Teams
  3. Driving Change - Creating Sustainable and Dynamic Impact

The Program Mission

From the beginning, our partnership was designed to help staff leaders in higher education navigate uncertainty. As the uncertainty has grown and evolved over the past year, the skills and sensibilities at the core of the program have never been more important. Liz McMillen sat down with Howard Teibel to discuss the turbulent landscape institutions are facing, and the leadership capabilities that are vital to staying afloat and moving institutional initiatives forward.
