What I Do
As managing editor, I help oversee the newsroom and the full spectrum of its coverage, from breaking news to investigative features. I also work on The Chronicle Review, our opinion section, to commission and edit op-eds, essays, reported articles, and forums on topics including college finance and leadership, academic politics and culture, and more. I am also the co-editor of Arts & Letters Daily, a thinking person’s guide to the internet.
My Background
Since joining The Chronicle in 2005, I’ve served in a variety of roles. I began on the business side, working as a liaison to other media outlets interested in tapping The Chronicle’s expertise. In 2007, I moved to the staff of The Review, where I commissioned and edited essays on intellectual life in academe. I also write profiles of prominent academics, including Clayton Christensen, David Gelernter, Tony Judt, Rashid Khalidi, and Glenn Loury. More recently, I’ve conducted a series of longform interviews on topics such as antisemitism, affirmative action, and William F. Buckley Jr.’s influence on higher education.
I am a graduate of Skidmore College, where I studied history and government.
